Farmers markets have grown in popularity in recent years.

Nowadays, consumers interested in farmers markets can often find one near their homes whether that is in rural communities, the suburbs or a bustling city.

People who have never before shopped at one may be curious as to why many people find them so appealing.

The following are just a few benefits of shopping at a farmers market that might turn novices into full-fledged devotees.

First, the fruits and vegetables are fresh.

“Most produce sold at the farmers market will be harvested the day of or day before the farmers market,” said Kathy Dirks, program manager for the Harrison County Historical Village & Iowa Welcome Center.
