This snapshot is of JJ’s daughter and son, Sarah and David, helping with the mulch. It went along her April 29 “Today’s Thankfulness” post.

For the last couple of months, Barbie Schafer has started each morning in a unique way.

Before the busyness of the day sets in and the reviewing of the “to do” list starts, Schafer does a little writing.

The Facebook posts, titled “Yesterday’s One Good Thing,” are done before she talks to anyone, reads or watches the news or has any other type of interactions with others, including her own family.

That way, her writings, and the thoughts and feelings that go into them, are not influenced, for good or bad.

These writings all started because she had been reading the Facebook posts of a friend talking about what happiness looked like for her each day.

“I loved reading these [posts] on a daily basis,” said Barbie. “It was so uplifting.”

Well, shortly after that, she started doing her own Facebook posts, titling them, “Yesterday’s One Good Thing.”

Over the next three weeks she would write these posts. She would continue writing them periodically over the next three years.

Fast forward to April 2020.
