Seven students earn perfect marks, a few two times over, at the 2021 State Individual Speech Contest

Multiple schools participated in the Contest held in the auditorium at the Logan-Magnolia School building.

LOGAN — Eleven high school students from the Logan-Magnolia, Woodbine and Missouri Valley school districts participated in the 2021 Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) 2021 State Individual Speech Contest held in Logan Saturday, March 13.

Seven of the Speech students received perfect marks across the board either one or two times. Here are the individual results first for Logan-Magnolia:

*Penelope Alvis received two I's and a II and an overall of I Rating for her Solo Musical Theatre piece "Perfect Day." She received three I's and an overall rating of I for her Poetry piece "Indigo"

*Evelyn Gomez received three I's and an overall rating of I for her Solo Musical Theatre piece "I Dreamed A Dream." She received two I's and II with an overall rating of I for her Expository "How To Live With A 30-Year-Old Virgin/Brother"

*Brooklynn Robinson received two I's and a II with an overall rating of I for her Solo Musical Theatre piece "When He Sees Me"

*Noah Bock received two I's and a II with an overall rating of I for his Poetry piece "Ghost"

The results for Missouri Valley are:

*Heidi Goodrich received three I's and an overall rating of I for her Solo Musical Theatre piece "Can't Say No." She received three I's and an overall rating of I as well for her Acting piece "Hidden Figures"

*Mariah Pleskac received three I's and an overall rating of I for her Solo Musical Theatre piece "For Forever." She received two I's and a II and an overall rating of I for her Original Oratory piece "Home Grown Therapy"

*Gracie Stoops received three I's and an overall rating of I for her Solo Musical Theatre piece "Dead Mom"

*Conner Ferris received a I and two II's with an overall rating of II for his Review piece "The Mandalorian, Season 2"

*Graciela Monet received three I's and an overall rating of I for her Poetry piece "A Sea of Cabbages”

The results for Woodbine are:

*Amanda Heitman received three I's and an overall rating of I for her Solo Musical Theatre piece "Show Off." She also received three I's and an overall rating of I for her Prose piece "Please God, I'm Only 17"

*Breck Sullivan received two I's and a II with an overall rating of I for his Solo Musical Theatre piece "Freeze Your Brain"

According to Lo-Ma Speech Coach Jean Nelson, the All-State Individual Speech nominations will be announced later this month.
